Six Open-Source Mario Fan Games Now Playable on Mario.Game

Alongside our own game, Mario.Game hosts six fan versions published as open source on GitHub. Every one of them has a dedicated page with controls, tips and a link to the original repository. Here's a quick tour.

Infinite Mario Bros

The famous random-level generator by Markus “Notch” Persson (2008), in Robert Kleffner's HTML5 port. Every stage is built on the fly, and the game became a research platform for the Mario AI Competition. Play it · Guide

Mario.js — World 1-1 Remake

Garrett Johnson wrote a canvas engine from scratch — main loop, collisions, scrolling and sprites — to recreate the most famous level ever made. Play it

MariOCaml

A Cornell University project by Matthew Hsu, Liam Bui and Ashley Xue, written entirely in the OCaml language and compiled to JavaScript. Its levels are procedurally generated. Play it

Super Mario Phaser

Pablo Gozálvez's Phaser 3 remake with random levels, remappable controls and a settings menu run by Toad. Play it

Super Mario HTML5 (Phaser 3)

A tidy TypeScript build of World 1-1 by ffx0s, with the level made in the Tiled editor and Mario's abilities implemented as separate “powers”. Play it

Mario Level Editor

The Super Mario Bros. demo of Martin Drapeau's Backbone Game Engine — play World 1-1, then switch to edit mode and build your own level. It also has big touch buttons for phones. Play it · Guide

A note on credits and licenses

We only included projects whose source code is published under permissive open-source licenses (MIT or public domain), and each game page links to its repository and authors. Fan games are labours of love: if you enjoy one, consider starring its repository on GitHub. Mario and related characters belong to Nintendo; this site is an unofficial fan project.
